Itinerary For The Genting Trip

On the 6th of August 2010, after the class finished at 11.30 a.m., the whole class gradually met up at the shuttle bus area near the Student Life Centre. The plan was for all the groups to take the shuttle bus together and take the KTM at Setia Jaya to go to KL Sentral to catch the Genting bus although because we missed the Taylors bus, we decided to take the taxi to Setia Jaya Station instead. Unfortunately for our group, there were no taxis available at that time and time was running out very quickly, so we decided to take our group members car to reach the LRT Kelana Jaya Station which was faster than the KTM. We reached the station at around 12.35 p.m which gave us 25 minutes to reach the Genting bus at KL Sentral that departs at 1 p.m. We asked our other classmates that reached there first to hold the bus just a few minutes but unfortunately again, we missed the bus by just a few seconds.

So, we went to the Genting Bus ticket counter at KL Sentral to buy tickets to board the next bus but the next bus was too late in the afternoon which was at around 5 p.m. Fortunately, the woman at the counter said that there was an earlier bus departing at 3.30p.m. at the Gombak Station. We decided to take that bus instead because it was the earliest. To reach Gombak Station, we took the LRT again. This meant that we travelled from the last station at Kelana Jaya until the first station in Gombak, travelling the entire Kelana Jaya Line.

Upon reachning the Gombak Station, we had around 90 minutes before the bus departs, so we killed time by eating, reading the newspaper, chit-chatting and praying at the surau in the station. When we were ready to board, we had difficulty putting our bags in the compartments outside the bus. Unfortunately, the bus conductor did not want to help us and instead just gave some bad instructions. After many attemps, we did manage to open the compartment door and place our bags in there. During our journey to Genting, the bus suddenly broke down and we were forced to wait for another bus to take us. When we were reaching the peak, Afu was suddenly breathless and was like fainting because of the high altitude. She probably has not acclimatised yet and she was gasping for air. We reached Genting at around 4.30 p.m. and after reaching the bus stop, Shamma accompanied Afu to the rest room for a while and a few moments later they came out and Afu was feeling better and had acclimatised to the high altitude.

When we arrived at our apartments, we found that the other groups were geting ready to explore the shopping mall. Some of us were too tired and didn't join but Zaid wasn't bothered about the fatigue and joined the others.

At the shopping mall, some went to the karaoke while Nadh, Nabila, Zaid and Nadeeya just walked around and had dinner. By the way, the simple dinner we had cost us an average of RM17 per plate! After we all went back to the apartments, we had a shower and relaxed a bit. After that we just hung around in the apartments and watched movies and videos. While some of us also made a group study on accountings to make us of the time.

The next day we had a late breakfast and started to get ready to go back home at around 12 p.m. The original plan was to go to the theme park first but because many change their minds, we all just went back together. First we took the skyway cable car to the bus station below. The view was amazing and the mist was very thick sometimes. It was the most enjoyable public transport in our assignment which erased our bad memories the previous day.

From the bus station, we all took a bus to the Gombak LRT Station and arrived there at around 3 p.m. From there we went our seperate ways. Some took the LRT to KL Sentral to get on the KTM while others took the taxi. Overall, it was an interesting and unique learning experience that was enjoyable for us. And the experience and knowledge gained will surely be very useful to us for our studies in the future and while working later on.

My experience! - Shirley Chen

We, students of DT36, were required to make a day trip to any destination in Malaysia using public transportation. Initially, we were planning to go to Langkawi Island as we’d be using a lot of the public transportation. However, many of the classmates couldn’t make it due to financial problem and some of them couldn’t stay over for so many days. Finally, we decided to go to Genting Highland on the 6th of August.

We were supposed to take the public transport to go to Genting Highland together. Unfortunately, I was sick on that day and was having a bad diarrhea so I didn’t get to join my group members in the morning. I was so sad about it because I missed a lot of fun being with them. When I got better, I asked my friends to send me to Genting Highland by car to join my classmates as I was still sick. It took us about 1hour and 30minutes to reach Genting Highland. On the way, we had to pay a RM5 toll by using the Karak Highway.
I reached Genting Highland around 5.30PM and met up with some of my classmates in the Genting First World Hotel. As I’ve missed out the whole journey of getting to Genting Highland with my classmates, I got some updates from Sting. He told me that many of them couldn’t make it on time and some missed the train and bus.
sting! my closest friend in the class. :)

After having dinner, I went to the casino together with Sting and a few of my friends. It was my first time! I’ve never stepped into any casino before. Then, went back to the apartment where my classmates stayed. Many of them were getting ready to sleep as they were too tired of the journey. However, I couldn’t believe that some of them were studying Accountings in the living room. Too hardworking! For me, I think it’s a trip for us to gather and have fun together especially for the foreigner students but it seemed to me that many of us were not having that much fun. I just don’t know why.

On the next day, we were separated and went on our own way. Most of them went home earlier. As for me, I stayed a little longer with my own group of friends and headed to the outdoor themepark.  But before that, we drove down to Gohtong Jaya to have our lunch. Then, we took the cable car to the top of Genting Highland. I bought the return ticket which cost RM10. It’s been ages since I’ve taken the cable car. Couldn’t remember when the last time was though. When I was lining up for the cable car, the queue was so long!! And I waited for about 40minutes!! Actually I was fear of height, but I took up the courage to take the cable car. And it took about 15minutes to reach the top.

look at the queue!!! just part of it!!

finally!! got into the cable car!! :p

After outdoor themepark, my friends and I had dinner at Genting First World Hotel. At about 7PM, we headed to the Skyway station wanted to go down to Gohtong Jaya and head home. But the queue was longer than before! It was getting colder and I felt sick again. So we decided to take a taxi. Most of the taxis in Genting Highland are not metered taxi. At first, the taxi driver asked for RM60 to send us to Gohtong Jaya Skyway Station. But after a few minutes of bargaining, we only paid RM40 for the taxi. Got our car, then we headed home immediately as we were very tired.

Honestly, I didn’t really spend much time with my classmates through out the whole journey. But I can tell that this trip wasn’t organized and many of us didn’t really corporate well with each other. I think that we should plan a proper itinerary for the trip. Last but not least, punctuality is very important in any event too. Anyway, it was a great experience for all of us especially to the foreigner students as many of them never taken some of the public transportation like train and cable car before. It was their first time to Genting Highland too!

I believe there’s no right or wrong, there’s only lessons to learn. I learnt my lesson through this trip. Next time, I would make sure everything is well planned and manage my time properly.

I must thank Ms. Madelyn for giving us this chance to share this experience together with the classmates.

Learning Experience - Nizah

This was a new experience for me as it was my first trip genting high lands. On this trip I got separated with my group members’ as I went to home after our geography class as I left my bag at home. After that I went to setia jaya train station and then I got I message from zaid saying they they all are going to KL central by car and asked me to take the KTM to KL central. From there me and my group members went on different root to KL sental. i wasn’t alone in setia jaya station as there were other groups from DT36. We waited for 20 min for train to come. It took around 30 mins for st reach kl central. Me and my group members’ were supposed to meet up in kl central but they couldn’t make it until the scheduled time for bus to genting. We asked the bus driver wait for our group members’ to arrive and he gave us 5 mins but unfortunately when they came the bus left.

On the bus I was with my class mates. It took around 1hr 30 mins for us to reach there. When I was in the bus I called Emir and he said that they will be taking the bus from Gombak to genting. When I was In the bus I could feel the difference of the temperature there as it was getting cold and cold. After reaching there we went to our apartment. We took a rest there and then went out. After that my group members joined me in the apartment. And after that we had some fun there. And on the next day we some of us planed to wait to go theme park but others wanted to go home.

I was going to wait to go theme park as It would be a nice experience but then most of us decide to go home. Only 4 of us decided to wait and then later I changed my mind cause only 4 of us decided to wait. Around 2 o’clock we took the cable car from genting and then we took the bus the to Gombak. From Gombak we took LRT to kL central and from there we took KTM to setia jaya and then I walked to home.

KTM -  The KTM is not dependable because it usually breaks down. Nizah took the KTM train at Setia Jaya Station to the KL Sentral. It took about 40 minutes and cost about RM2.00.

LRT (Kelana Jaya Line) - We started at the Kelana Jaya Station and went to the KL Sentral Station. It took us approximately 25 minutes to reach there. The fee was RM2.10 per person one-way. Then from KL Sentral, we went to the Gombak Station which cost about RM2.50 per person and it took 30 minutes to reach there.

Taxi- It is expensive but it is also the fastest way to reach a destination.Malika took the taxi from Gombak station to Subang Jaya, which took about an hour and cost about RM40.00.

Genting Express Bus Service (From Gombak) - It took us approximately 1 hour to reach Genting Highlands and it cost RM5.50 per person one-way.

Independent taxis - These taxis are private cars owned by the drivers which commute passengers to and fro between the many hotels and apartments to the First World Plaza. The service cost RM2.00 per person one-way although we can bargain about the price if we wanted to.

Skyway Cable Car - When going down, it took us about 12 minutes to reach the main station at Gohtong Jaya. The scenic view was great during the ride down. The one-way ticket price is RM5.00 per person.

My Learning Experience - Malika Temirova

My impression of the trip
On Friday, 6th of August 2010 we, DT36, had an assignment involving public transportation system. We chose the Genting Highlands for our destination. On that day we started our trip around 11:40am from Taylor`s College, which located in PJS 7/5. Our group had a problem reaching Kelana Jaya LRT Station. We missed the college bus and did not find available taxi. Later one of my group member helped us. So we went to Kelana Jaya LRT Station by car.
The second transport, which we used, was Light Rail Transit. The way was from Kelana Jaya LRT Station to KL Sentral Station.  For me it was first time when I used this type of public transport.
When we reached the KL Sentral, the bus left the station without us. My group was late less than 5 minutes. We were very upset about this situation. Next bus was only at 5pm, so waiting for 4 hours was not convenient for us. We decided to go to another station. So, we again started our way by LRT, from KL Sentral Station to Gombak LRT Station. Finally, we took the bus at 3pm. But the bus was full and some of us did not have a place to seat. Later we changed a bus.
I remember this day, when we reached the Genting Highlands, I was very tired like all of my group members and all we need was a rest.
Students took different ways to come back home. For example me, I took the taxi from Genting Highland to Subang Jaya. It was the easiest and fastest way to come back.
What can I say about our trip? We need to learn how to organize the trips; we must think more about planning the timing. Now we have experience about how important to correct planning and thinking about different situations, which can happen during a trip. My group and I felt by ourselves how organization is important for travel. Public transports are convenient and very useful for travelers in our days. After this interesting trip I learnt many useful things for my daily life. I want to say Thank You for our lecturer, Ms. Madelyn! She gave us unique opportunity for do this trip with my classmates. And now we can share with our experience with each other.
Thank You
